Description

TENTATIVE ID: Homalotylus sp. ST1 (New to N.Z.!)

In fallen nikau palm flower sheath.

Unfortunately, I discarded the specimen after photography, but before trying to ID it, assuming it to be something known!

After tentatively IDing it as Homalotylus from the above photos, I emailed the link to this page to Dr. John Noyes (NHM), who replied as follows:

Hi Stephen,

I cannot see the venation or some other important characters, but it does look like a Homalotylus species to me. Your guess(?) is pretty good. Given the fact that it has slightly shortened wings and a unicolorous flagellum it may be an undescribed species.
