Plant observations at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) leading up to a Bioblitz

A checklist for the broader area of the neighbourhood of Ondina, Salvador is in existence, and has been compiled by botanist Nadia Roque through the years. There are some 400-odd plant species in this checklist. I have seen maybe 190 or so of the species listed.

Building on this checklist, I have found an additional 70 or so species that ar not in the checklist. Many of them are ornamental or medicinal garden plants have have undoubted been brought into cultivation in the last 5 years or so.

But some species appear to be native Atlantic forests species.

In any case, walking around the campus looking at plants is a nice way to get in touch with the nature of the area.
