English version below
For Venezuela, the limits of Guayana Esequiba are defined to the east and roughly by the Essequibo River, from its headwaters in the Acaraí mountain range, to the south, to its mouth to the north, in the Atlantic Ocean; to the south, with the Federative Republic of Brazil and to the north and west by the limits of Delta Amacuro state and Bolívar state, which are adjacent to it. Between October and November 1962, the Venezuelan State denounced before the United Nations (plenary session and Special Political Commission of the Assembly) the Arbitration Award of Paris of 1899, it is the main part of the Arbitration Treaty signed in Washington in 1897 by the United Kingdom and Venezuela whereby both governments sought "the amicable settlement of the question that has arisen (...) about the boundary of the colony of British Guiana and the United States of Venezuela." From then on, the dispute process was opened that led to the formulation of the respective debate agenda and the Joint Communiqué signed by both countries on November 7, 1963. The lawsuit culminated in Geneva on February 17, 1966 with the Agreement baptized with the name of the city where it was signed, which was made law in Venezuela when it was published on April 15 of that same year in the Official Gazette number 28.008, and recognized in the international arena by being registered by the national representation before the About a month later (May 5) with the UN number I-8192, volume 561. In addition, and in our current national constitution, important changes were made in the definition of the Venezuelan geographic space. In this sense, the broader expression of geographic space was adopted to replace that of territory. Indeed, geographic space refers to continental, insular and maritime spaces, leaving the territory as a component of the first of those mentioned. However, the determination of the national geographic space is not altered by reiterating the traditional version of the Constitution of 1830 and that is repeated until 1961, that is, the one that corresponded to the Captaincy General of Venezuela on April 19, 1810. However, the phrase was added with the modifications resulting from the treaties and arbitration awards not vitiated of nullity. This corrects the omission of the Constituent Congress of 1961 in relation to the decisions and arbitrations determining our current borders, such as those of the years 1865, 1891, 1899 and 1922, and it is established in a categorical way that Venezuela does not recognize the invalid awards of nullity, as is the case of the Paris Award of 1899 that stripped Venezuela of the space located on the western bank of the Essequibo River. On the other hand, the insular space is conceptually demarcated as part of the political-territorial organization of Venezuela and as a space subject to Venezuelan sovereignty. For this reason the islands are mentioned by their names and the sovereignty extends to the other islands, islets, keys and banks located or emerging within the limits of the exclusive economic zone [source: Valarino Uriola, M. and Brandt Graterol, L.
