How to make Audio observations.

My work flow to capture then add Sound observations.

Try and avoid windy situations, shield phone microphone using body or clothing. Or use external mic with wind sock/dead cat.

My preference is to use my phones recorder app. This way a number of recordings can be made, best one selected and any editing required done before Observation is uploaded. Most phones have a stock Recorder app installed. Find yours and get familiar with using it to make recordings then editing them as needed. Once a field recording has been made go to add observation in usual way, select "Choose Sound" then find the audio file. On my android phone the file route is Files/Internal Storage/Sounds. Don't forget to Add in the location.

If you find that work flow too fiddly, then just make your sound observation "in app". Select Add Observation(green Plus icon), select "Record Sound".

For better quality recordings an external Microphone can be used with phone. For example I sometimes use a Rode VideoMic Go as i already had this. Not as spontaneous to use but its a big improvement on sound and gives a much more directional recording. I did need to purchase a 3.5mm TRS to TRRS patch cable(SC7) for this to work with the phones headphone input.

Have fun!
