Fall 2018 - A New Application of iNaturalist on Campus

iNaturalist has been used on campus in a variety of ways beginning in 2016 as part of Biol17 Conservation Biology. In this course students have engaged in using iNaturalist as part of the course's bioliteracy challenge (a course based experience aimed at encouraging students to increase their awareness of campus biodiversity by making place-based observations). This collections project was established in August 2018 to bring together the student generated data collected during the last three spring semesters and capture the ongoing monitoring being completed by students, staff, and other members of the Brandeis community. At the time of establishment of this ongoing monitoring project members of the Brandeis community had documented about 800 species on or near campus. We look forward to continuing to work together to explore what biodiversity on campus looks like now and into the future.
