As part of their Science curriculum Y10 students at Lincoln High School are undertaking an Ecoblitz at Mahoe Reserve, Lincoln.
This project aims to meet the Nature of Science Achievement Aims and all 5 of the Science capabilities through an Enviroschools inspired action learning approach.
Thanks to experts from DOC (Living waters), Lincoln University, Environment Canterbury, Lincoln Envirotown Trust and Birds NZ students have trialled practical monitoring skills for birds, invertebrates, using a drone, mammalian pests, weeds and lizards.
Students will pick an area to specialise in and collect data, to share with their consultant expert early in Term 2.
From this, they will then create an action proposal to share with the reserve committee- allowing them to take meaningful action from their outdoor classroom.
This project was co-ordinated by Enviroschools Canterbury.
