[OhioDragonfly] August is upon us, what other oddities will we find?

Thank you so much to everyone who has submitted observations to iNaturalist! We have hit 56,000 observations, 20,000 of which are from this year! We still want more records as some of the fall species like the Great Spreadwing are just emerging.

Oddities to watch:
Swift Setwings (Dythemis velox): This late season flier is out now! Check old quarry lakes near you and you might find them!
Rambur's Forktail (Ischnura ramburii): at an aquatics plants distributor near you? Known from Green, Cleveland, and Cincinnati distributors, but we have yet to find them in the "wild"
Thornbush Dasher (Micrathryia hagenii): Not documented in Ohio yet, but a very credible source has found one across the border in PA. These might be vagrants that would be found in ponds with heavy vegetation

Record Submission Deadline - December 1st
Please be sure to submit your observations to iNaturalist by December 1st! Any photo records from Ohio from any time are greatly appreciated. They need to be submitted to iNaturalist to be included in our dataset. Specimen records are also due to MaLisa by this date unless an alternative arrangement is made.

Counties with low 2019 observations:
Mostly eastern counties with a low human population - Belmont (n=19), Noble (n=23), Columbiana (n=29), Monroe (n=29), Jefferson (n = 38).
Then we start getting some NW counties that need attention - Marion (n=39), Hardin (n=43), Sandusky (n=43).

Species we have almost documented in all counties in 2019: (Want to help cover the board?) Data extracted by Jim Lemon
Fragile Forktail - 1 more --> Belmont
Eastern Amberwing - 2 more --> Meigs, Monroe
Widow Skimmer - 3 more --> Meigs, Monroe, Washington
Eastern Forktail - 3 more --> Knox, Meigs, Morgan

Other upcoming events:
Most of the remaining outreach events are Stream Quality Monitoring Workshops hosted by the Scenic Rivers program. Check out their website here: http://watercraft.ohiodnr.gov/sqm
Targeted Searches:
I hope to do a targeted search in Eastern Ohio Aug 13 and 14th next week (Tues/Wednesday), weather pending. Send me an email (spring.99@osu.edu) if you would like to join or meet up at some of the spots. This will be at a suite of counties including Noble, Belmont, Jefferson, and Columbiana with an emphasis on Clubtails, but we will take what we can get.

Stay hydrated,
MaLisa Spring
