@dave_holland, @derekcraig, @hedgehog111, @robin_booth, @rowanstanley, @scrubid you will probably want to join this project as Seeds of Plants found in New Zealand will disappear after the merging is complete. Thanks :-)

and already I have a suggested modification of this Project:) Can we also add observations of said features NOT detached? ie a seed hanging on the tree, or even its container, (shell/fruit/capsule/pod etc), or a whole panicle of them, if clear and useful in identification. (I often would not detach a seed or destroy a fruit in order to obtain an observation.)

I am going to keep tearing them down and eating the fruit right off so we can see exactly what it looks like, and also add pics of the whole fruit/pod, and will try to remember to get a shot of it all still attached to the plant 👍

@dave_holland With each observation can we also have photos of you before and after so that we can determine which fruit/seeds are poisonous (if there is no 'after' photo we will assume deadly) ;-)

Ok draft text for front page:
What seed is this?

Collecting some good photo observations of seeds as an aid to identifying seeds found - for interest, to help reduce the numbers of invasive plants by preventing their germination, and to help confirm the identity of seeds collected for dissemination on restoration sites or for propagation.

NB - wild seed found under kereru roosts, including those in dense mature nikau groves, is nowadays, and increasingly, likely to include seeds of invasive exotic species such as Bangalow, Queen, Chusan, Fan and other invasive palms.

Any additions to the Project are welcome. To add observations, Join this Project, then in any suitable observation, open the "Projects" Tab on the Right of the Observation, type "Seeds, Fruits & Propagules in NZ", select it from the drop-down, then in the dialogue that opens, enter the value "Seed" in the field "Plant life stage", click "Add" and click "Add to Project"

Dave it sounds like you will have the species well-covered. Tony you will have Dave covered LOL:)))))
Text fine with me ( NB Typo, "identify of seeds" = identity of course.)

(spelling corrected) It occurs to me that the project has dual functions, as a guide to seed identity, and a place for people to post observations to help them identify plants/seeds.

I will also add a note to pause between adding the field and clicking on add-to-project, as the system needs a moment to add the field, otherwise you get an error message about the field not being present and it fails to add it to the project.

😂 good one! Yea some of them are a little bit bitter 😫

"the project has dual functions, as a guide to seed identity, and a place for people to post observations to help them identify plants/seeds" Definitely, that was my intention and use of the old "Seeds" project anyway

Good idea about the pause.

Thanks for the heads-up :)

Merger almost done, still waiting for the merged "Seed" field to reappear as "seeds shown?". Have added a new journal post for the front page, and amended the description to allow "attached" seeds/fruit/propagules if they're good closeups.
