Repair and Defend!
Te Roto o Wairewa, Lake Forsyth, is surrounded by a huge catchment area, with numerous streams. The area is rich in Biodiversity, but only in patches. The area is undergoing repair, so little by little progress is being made towards the health of the lake, and the valleys. By understanding what species may be present now, what was once present and currently lost or in decline, maybe we can turn the tide and lead the way towards cleaner water, swimming in the lake, and a greater wealth of Rongoa (medicinal and cultural) plant species in the local project plantings.
So lets get excited about extending each biodiversity patch and show the way to healthier water systems!
Ps In this project I have included the areas of Tumbledown bay and Magnet bay, and the organic farm and mahinga kai areas as the plant projects of the future will all inter-relate. This land is all within the caretaking of the Wairewa Runanga.
