thomashirsch | crested coral fungus (Clavulina cristata) |
it should be merged into C. coralloides, according to index fungorum. http://www.indexfungorum.org/Names/NamesRecord.asp?RecordID=114572 |

This has since been done. |
There is a problem here. The operation of the iNat taxonomy was was recently changed and has significant negative consequences. To merge C. cristata into C. coralloides would require the infra-specific variants to also be moved. C. cristata var zealandica is one of those. It is a good taxon and not the same as C. coralloides. So it should not be subsumed within a broader concept of C. coralloides. It is simply that nobody has got around to officially establishing C. coralloides var. zealandica. If anybody tries to synonimise C. cristata var. zealandica with C. coralloides then I, for one, will be extremely annoyed. It would be both taxonomically and nomenclaturally incorrect. The way the iNat taxonomy works needs correcting, and not blurred for convenience.
