I can't find much to support this taxonomic view. Is there a peer-reviewed publication somewhere? I can't find one. The combination was published in the 'IndexFungorum' online journal, which the iNat curator's guide correctly cautions against accepting at face-value. There is a single GenBank deposited ITS sequence

In a RAxML analysis it is not positioned with any certainty and certainly not within the Butyriboletus clade. With poor support it sits within the red-pored clade of Imperator, Neoboletus, Rubroboletus, and Suillellus, but very poor support and I wouldn't trust ITS for boletes anyway.

Thank you @cooperj for your comprehensive answer. Anyway, there is a gap in the knowledge waiting to be filled. Regards!
