Trachypepla euryleucota

OECOPHORIDAE: Concealer Moths 4

Trachypepla euryleucota (Meyrick, 1883). Endemic.

This moth is one of several that closely mimic bird droppings, though the forewing pattern and tufts of raised scales also provide camouflage against a patchwork background of lichens.

Habitat, seasonality and behaviour 5

Adults are found from November to March in native forest. They can sometimes be found resting on walls or fences by day; they later fly at night and come to light.

Life history 5

Believed to be similar to Tingena Armigerella, https://inaturalist.nz/guide_taxa/604016.
