Description ²

Adults: Black with metallic blue sheen, and dark brown/black metallic green wings with a white throat, chest and belly. Most have white patches on their wings and some males have white patches on their back. Narrow pink/brown beak, light brown eyes with pink legs and feet. The skin at the base of the beak is yellowy-orange with a orangey-red or purple pouch below.
In breeding condition they exhibit a head crest.
Juveniles: brown rather than black, and pale facial skin.
