The American black bear (Ursus americanus) 5
The American black bear can be found throughout all the moutain ranges of Utah. Black bears have black fur with a brown or cream colored muzzle. They may also have white patches of fur on the chest. Black bears have 5 toes with the large toe on the outside and a smaller toe on the inside. Often bears travel in an over-step walk, with their rear foot falling in front of where the front foot fell. Their scat is tubular and may be composed of seeds and other plant matter.
