Lopharcha insolita

TORTRICIDAE: Chlidanotinae 4

Lopharcha insolita (Dugdale, 1966). Endemic.

Unusual in that it has scale tufts on the forewings and the hind-wing has an strange shape as it is elongate (finger-like) toward the apex (N. Hudson, 2019).

Habitat, seasonality and behaviour 5

Adults are on the wing in native forest during summer and are attracted to artificial light.

Life history 5

Larval foodplant: Litsea calicaris (Sol. ex A.Cunn.) Benth. & Hook.f. ex Kirk, Lauraceae (Tawa family), Laurales, Magnoliopsida, Spermatophyta. Biostatus: Endemic, Wild, New Zealand (PlantSynz NZ). Caterpillars feed inside (endophytically) inflorescences and shoots.
