Iophon minor

Common around the east coast of Aotearoa as well as Rakiura and Chathams.

Found on deep reefs or in silty inshore areas where it can be found on horse mussels

Has two forms - long and strappy like fingers or shot and dense like the photos above.

Colour in life bright orange yellow to dull yellow, turning deep purple brown to maroon on exposure to air or preservative. If from silty areas the colours can be dull.
