Brownsville, TX---a Naturalist's Paradise

One of my dreams as a naturalist is to visit the southernmost tip of Texas, the only place in the US where you can see a lot of tropical Mexican critters. I'm finally going in October, which is when most of the tourists are gone, according to the Internet. I particularly want to see the World Birding Center. I'll be staying in Brownsville.

Possible destinations for the week:

Boca Chica Beach
Sabal Palm Sanctuary
Resaca de la Palma State Park (World Birding Center spot)
South Padre Island (another World Birding Center spot)

There's so much to do there that I can't possibly see and do everything in one week! It will be a week of beachcombing, birding, saltwater fishing, and butterfly watching. I can't wait to go!

If you're interested in wildlife tracks, Boca Chica beach, around the mouth of the Rio Grande and back up in the dunes a bit, is great.

You will have a BLAST!!! It’s so great, and October should be a great time to especially see some of the butterflies.

I was psyching myself up for the trip by looking at what species others had observed. Strangely, there was only one species, a leaf-footed bug, listed for the city of Brownsville itself but over 900 for the county. That means I will have to post lots of awesome new things so the Brownsville pokedex will have more species! @sambiology
