Cactus Hunting in Cedar Hill State Park

I chose Cedar Hill State Park for Cactus Week since it's the most cactus-filled place close to me. I found two species, Western Prickly Pear and Chistmas Cholla. I don't know anything about cacti so I ordered a field guide to Texas cacti that arrived in the mail Friday.

For Salamander Week, I walked along creeks, looking under rocks and fallen limbs for salamanders, but I've had no luck.

Next week is Fish Week. I think I'm going to get a minnow net and try my hand at catching small fish at one of the state parks, since you don't need a license in Texas to catch fish inside a state park. This is something I've never tried before, so wish me luck.

In other news, I joined the Northeast Texas/Tyler chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist program. I've met a lot of awesome people and it seems like this will be a lot of fun.
