Description

I found this moth outside of my apartment (longitude and latitude below) in San Antonio, TX on November 2,2020 at 1:16am. The weather that day had a high of 76 degrees and a low of 46 degrees and since it was taken so early it was probably around 50 degrees. Obsure Sphinx are apart of a family a moths that uniquely include some hummingbirds which means their wings are very strong. They’re usually all in uniformed, grayish colors. Their diet consists usually of plants in the Apocynaceae family. The role that they play in the environment is keeping up plant populations and supporting crop yields. Domain: Eukaryota, Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Arthropoda, Class: Insecta, Order: Lepidoptera, Family: Sphingidae, Genus: Erinnyis, Species: E. obscura.
