Nature Journal 3

This week while at the nature park I took photos of flowers, a bee, and something that looked like wild blueberries. Since last week the nature park has become very different, the trees have lost a lot of leaves making plants harder to see. It has rained almost every day and even snowed one day. Because of all these changes in the weather it was rather harder this week to find things that were alive. The organisms that I was able to take a good photo were Annual Fleabane (Erigeron annuus), Bristly Greenbrier (Smilax tamnoides), Bumble Bees (Genus Bombus). The Annual Fleabane and Bristly Greenbrier were pretty well in place, it was not too difficult to take pictures of them. Most of their issues were caused by it starting to rain and the wind blowing them side to side. The Bumble Bee was a bit more difficult to take pictures of, I was a bit scared to be stung so I did not want to get really close to it. The Bumble Bee’s photos were taken before the rain started so the only movement that I observed was the Bee going from flower to flower and occasionally at my face. What I originally had was my Bumble Bees identified as Bombus citrinus, but I had a professor at the University of Singapore that specialises in wasps and bees decide that it was actually Bombus impatiens. From the professor commenting on my photos it helped me to learn more about being cautious when deciding which identification to give my images. I think this week was our biggest challenge because of the drastic weather changes and the new surroundings of the park. From this week I think that it is really interesting to be able to see the transformation from summer to autumn, the leaves falling, the lessening of insects, and the plants starting to die off.
