Description

On the track ca 200m short of Third House on the Dun Mountain Trail. This was also about 200m outside the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary predator-proof fence. Possibly the first recorded sighting at this location since mammalian pest species were eradicated from the sanctuary in 2017.

Description

Initially seen on walkway track, flew up to dead branch when approached. Seemed very calm and approachable.

Dark plumage, general size and shape and quietness of this bird suggested young female.
