Opgeleid in Wageningen aan de toen nog Landbouwhogeschool in het hoofdvak Tropische Houtteelt, maar met als belangrijkste bijvak Natuurbeheer en -Bescherming heb ik een 25 jaar in de tropen en subtropen gewerkt als ecoloog. Ik heb me bezig gehouden met de relatie tussen herbivoren en de Sahel vegetatie in Mali, met landgebruik in Costa Rica en Kenia en met erosiebestrijding d.m.v. bosaanplant in diverse land waaronder Kaapverdië. Mijn professionele interesse ging vroeger vooral uit naar bomen en struiken en de grote herbivoren, later en vooral na mijn pensionering naar alles wat men zo op wandelingen en om het huis tegenkomt. Vooral de komst van smartphones met steeds beter camera's spitste mijn interesse toe op macrofotografie. Trained in Wageningen at the then Agricultural College in the main subject Tropical Forestry, but with the main secondary subject Nature Management and Protection. I worked for 25 years in the tropics and subtropics as an Ecologist. I have been concerned with the relationship between herbivores and the Sahel vegetation in Mali, with land use in Costa Rica and Kenya and with erosion control through planting of trees in various countries including Cape Verde. In the past my professional interest was mainly in trees and shrubs and the large herbivores, later and especially after my retirement to everything that people encounter on walks and around the house.
