Mkala is a Ph.D. student at the Wuhan Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences, working on Parastic Plants. Currently, he is focusing on the genus Hydnora in Africa. He is open to collaboration with other scientists globally. As he is completing his Ph.D., he is working on the Flora of East Africa, mainly Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
