Description

Dead harrier hawk (Circus approximans) scavenged bird. Onmy visit to this rock the summit area was littered with the carcases of black-ginged petrels (presumably killed by Cyclone Bune). All had been torn apart. The images I had taken were shown to ornithologists back in New Zealand who stated that the culprit for the scavenging observed was harrier hawk - birds of which occasional reach the Kermadec Islands.
