This project aims to serve as a collection of images of arthropod-induced galls on oaks (Quercus spp.) in the state of Arizona, with the objective of compiling data and eventually identifying the species responsible. While there are many resources for oak galls in other regions (such as California), there doesn't appear to be as much readily-available information about oak galls in Arizona.
The majority of gall-inducers on oaks are wasps in the family Cynipidae, though several other taxa may create galls as well. Many gall wasps are very host specific, so providing data about the specific type of oak may be useful for identification. Additionally, note that similar-looking galls on different species of oaks in California are probably caused by different species of wasps in Arizona, and so identification based on comparison to species from other regions should probably be discouraged.
