CoastBlitz Patea has begun!
Led by the South Taranaki Underwater Club, this project aims to understand how the subtidal reefs of South Taranaki are unique.
This CoastBlitz Patea project component has been designed to document all general observations made during reef dives and other boat outings off of Patea. Anyone can get involved in this project to help document what's living in the South Taranaki Bight.
To join in, simply add your NatureWatch observations to the "CoastBlitz Patea" project. Suitable observations for this project include anything living below (and above) the water, seaward of the low tide line, with an emphasis on the Patea region.
Other project components include three scientific surveys:
- CoastBlitz Patea - Benthic Survey
- CoastBlitz Patea - Underwater Camera Survey
- CoastBlitz Patea - Hook and Line Survey
Tools in NatureWatch NZ help keep track of the information. It is hoped that through CoastBlitz Patea, a general ReefBlitz survey model can be used to monitor local reefs along the coastline.
This project is a collaborative effort between South Taranaki Underwater Club, Taranaki Regional Council, Hawera High School, NatureWatch NZ, MBIE Curious Minds and other members of the community.
