This project is intended to provide State Agencies, Federal Agencies and students conducting legitimate scientific research with information regarding Kentucky's native reptiles and amphibians. With so few workers, sometimes these entities need a bit of a hand from citizen scientists interested in furthering our knowledge of native herptofauna. Specifically, all of the records contributed to this project will be available to the Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources for the work that they are conducting in the creation of their Wildlife Action Plan ( http://fw.ky.gov/WAP/Pages/default.aspx ), as well as the US Forestry Service in their surveying and inventorying of reptile and amphibian populations on all Federal Lands in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
The more information that you can provide within your voucher, the better. Getting your coordinates as close to the exact location of your find is of utmost importance, although we do realize that cell phone signal can limit this somewhat. Make sure to note (if possible) the sex, maturity and activities of the animal if at all possible.
We also understand that some species can be very rare to certain localities and we certainly don't want just anyone to have access to those locations. There are three privacy settings located on the data screen that will allow you to set the location to open, obscure or private. This will prevent anyone except the approved entities above from seeing the location of your find.
