Join Sonoma County Regional Parks' Natural Resources Manager, Melanie Parker, on a 'BioBlitz' hike and help catalog the natural history of Pinnacle Gulch in Bodega Bay. This hike will let us learn from one another while exploring one of the routes featured in the Sonoma County Trails Challenge. Together, we will photograph and upload observations of coastal prairie plants, birds, animal signs and other natural features onto iNaturalist.org.
We will meet at the trailhead at 9am. The trailhead is at 20600 Mockingbird Rd. Pinnacle Gulch is a half-mile trail that descends a stream-fed canyon and ends at a picturesque cove south of Doran Beach. This will be a moderate-intensity hike, due to the steady climb on the return. In addition to your curiosity and enthusiasm, please bring your smart phone, binoculars and field guide (if you have them), a lunch, and plenty of water. We may explore into the afternoon, depending on what we find.
There is no charge for this outing, but we ask you to please register in advance. Parking is $7 or free for Regional Park members.
The BioBlitz is part of the Sonoma County Trails Challenge, which invites you to explore the Regional Parks by hiking five or more trails before Dec. 1. Turn in a brief online trails log when you're done and get a free Trails Challenge water bottle. Get started today by downloading your PDF Trails Challenge guidebook.
