The Reserve

This reserve is an interesting one. In many ways it is like the other reserves in this part of Christchurch. There is an exotic canopy and understory dominated by elms, oaks and of course lots of sycamore, with a ground-cover of Vinca major. And yet there is an assemblage of native ferns typical (though not as rich) of Port Hills native bush. And at the top end of the reserve there is a good number of mahoe and five-finger regenerating. It is very near Ernle Clarke Reserve too, where volunteer efforts and plantings are supporting native regeneration.
