Taxonomy

Animalia Chordata Vertebrata Reptilia Squamata Serpentes Lamprophiidae Aparallactus Aparallactus lunulatus

Taxonomic notes: Segniagbeto et al. (2011) examined a specimen from Sansane Mangu in Togo originally identified as Aparallactus bocagii (now a subspecies of the southeastern African A. capensis), and found that it represented A. lunulatus, validating a synonymy first proposed by Loveridge (1944) within the species then known as A. liddiardae. Segniagbeto et al. (2011) found no support for the suggestion by de Whitte and Laurent (1947) that taxa these authors synonymized within A. lunulatus (including A. liddiardae) might warrant subspecific status. The validity of a recognized subspecies from Somalia, A. l. scorteccii, is "uncertain" (Lanza 1990).
