She/her pronouns

Hi! My name is Gianna. I am an amateur naturalist in Michigan with an interest in native wildlife preservation.

Quail, especially Northern Bobwhites, are some of my favorite kinds of birds, and I have been working on a Northern Bobwhite repopulation project in my area.

I am a strong believer in the benefits community science. When people become passionate about something, they seek out more information, and others who share that passion. This helps science in general immensely. I love the enthusiasm my fellow iNatters have in their areas of interest!

Please feel free to tag me for any bone or quail observations of any species! I am currently working on identifying and annotating all of the Northern Bobwhite observations. I would like to eventually add IDs and annotations for all birds in the family Odontophoridae, but for now I am starting (relatively) small.

Also, like everyone here, I am still learning. If you correct an ID of mine, let me know what field marks to look for next time! I appreciate interacting with those more knowledgable than I am, and I like knowing what to look for when observing and identifying. I will try to do the same with my own identifications as well.

Here's my eBird profile: https://ebird.org/profile/MzQ3MDg0NA

About me:

  • I am part of the MI Vernal Pool Patrol and enjoy adding observations through GIS of all of the species I find in our vernal pool.
  • I am also a part of Project Monarch Watch!
  • My favorite habitats are grassland biomes and vernal pools, but I love them all and would love to explore ones I have never been to.
  • I love collecting and ID-ing animal skulls. The Skulls and Bones project has taught me so much about bone ID, and being able to tell what an animal was by a bone is so rewarding!
  • I have a website on keeping quail and also a bunch of wildlife-related things. Feel free to check it out! https://anolesquailsandmaybecattails.neocities.org/
  • My native language is English, I am also proficient in ASL and okay at Japanese. If I comment in a language other than English, I am probably using Google Translate. (Even for Japanese because I do not have the Japanese keyboard enabled.)

Here is a list of species I have identified: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?ident_user_id=giannamaria&not_user_id=giannamaria,96&place_id=any&subview=map&view=species

Thank you to everyone who has helped me out with IDs!
