Description
We first faintly heard them around 21:30 (about 15 minutes after sunset) from the boardwalk, then walked in the direction of the sound until it was loud enough to make this recording. At times I could hear at least two at the same time, though there were probably more than that.
After this one went quiet, I walked further and heard one churring in a clump of trees close to the path. When I got close it stopped, and a minute or so later it flew out of the tallest of the trees, over my head and towards the woods. (This was at around 21:50.) A couple of minutes later another, or possibly the same one, came and started swooping around the trees in front of me, at times coming within a few metres. It was in silhouette, but I saw the falcon-like shape very clearly.
I stayed a while after this and got a few more brief views of them.

Near the end of their flight period. Only found a few and they were all quite faded.

Quite a lot of them in this pond. I've obscured the location because I think they're great crested, and I waited a while to upload to further hide the location.

This is my 5000th observation! This was from a trip to Iceland with my dad over 10 years ago. The picture was probably taken by him, as I didn't have my own camera back then.
It was from a puffin watching tour. I couldn't remember exactly where except that it was near Reykjavik, but the building in the background of the uncropped image appears to be Engey lighthouse.
