Found on Verbesina occidentalis, suggesting E. dispar. Several larvae were also found on the plant, confirming host status. Eye emargination color may be within normal range of color. Pronotal pattern unlike the recent E. canadensis I’ve been looking at.

Back when I first observed this, no one in my local entemology groups could figure out what this was. I'm hoping someone will be able to help figure it out.

Large, perhaps an 1 1/2" or more long and thick, fairly soft bodied, had six true legs and ten prolegs. Definitely some kind of caterpillar.

The wing markings on each side of the footsteps were neat to see. The Great Blue Heron was just on the other side of the river when I observed the fresh tracks. I assumed it was the same bird but you know what assume means...
