Growing on big boulder, roadside

This area of closed road is fast becoming overgrown and these pussytoes were buried beneath grass and sweet gums.

This owl got itself tangled in netting on our property. It was taken in by licensed wildlife rehabilitators.

Nice patch of red trilliums - based on the length of the pedicels below the flowers, I believe these are Trillium sulcatum.

Star chickweed (Stellaria pubera) and speedwell blooming along the Parkway. The chickweed are the white flowers.

There was a good number of these and I think they were all mountain bellworts (Uvularia puberula). The ones I looked at more closely had hairy ridges on their stems.

Wood betony along the Parkway. The flowers come in a range of colors from yellow to deep maroon red.

More speedwell along the Parkway.

Indian cucumber root (Medeola virginiana) coming up. These are easily recognized by their two tiers of whorled leaves.

Blue cohosh in bloom.

Canada mayflower in bloom along the trail.

This was a new plant for me that I hadn't photographed before. I think it's purple bedstraw (Galium latifolium).

Fritillary in the meadow at the parking lot.
