I noticed the weird markings on the ground while walking along the fence and I was like "what's that" so I go down to take a look, at which point I have no idea that there are two quails sitting in it. One of them got up and walked off and I tried to get a photo of it without realising the second one was still sitting there. Then I went to walk off and the second one moved. So, camouflage effectiveness: very good. Previously had only seen quails by walking along and they just launch out of the long grass in a burst of flapping, which gets your heart rate pumping. An interesting observation and looking forward to seeing them before they see me one day.

Regrowth Leptospermum obovatum, Grevillea acanthifolia, Emposdisma minus, Juncus continuus, other sedges, and Geranium neglectum

This Hobby was hunting European Starlings when Pied Butcherbirds tried to steal its kill. The "dogfight" was impressive to watch with the Hobby escaping into to forest lining the Goulburn River.
