American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis)Observer

5 foot long individual released in Prospect Park lake. Removed from lake by Parks Enforcement Patrol officers who handed it off to Urban Park Rangers. The animal was cold shocked but alive. Rangers transported it to the Bronx Zoo for medical evaluation and placement in a sanctuary.

Eastern Red Bat (Lasiurus borealis)Observer

Unexpected morning encounter with a bat while birding in Prospect Park's Vale of Cashmere. I recall this being a very insect-heavy day, and it was making repeated passes over this puddle of water that seemed to be attracting mosquitos or other insects. Aside from the fact that it was out in the daylight, this bat seemed healthy and okay, but I'm no expert.

Madrone Skin Miner (Marmara arbutiella)Observer

I found a downed branch of a Pacific Madrone. Seeing as this branch was down I supposed the leaves wouldn't stay fresh long enough for the Madrone Skin Miner's to overwinter, so I collected 4 leaves with Leafminer trails and brought them home to look at the larva under my microscope. It was interesting to see them move!
- Pictures 1-9 are of the larva under my microscope.
- Pictures 10 and 11 are of the larva.
- Picture 12 is of one of the trails made by a Leafminer.
- Pictures 13 and 14 are of one of the larva next to a measuring tape.
