Look who I found, unexpectedly!!! A lot lime greener than the SI ones from the excellent October trip with @williambrockelsby and @carey-knox-southern-scales

Wasn't expecting these, but on reflection there was a lot of Olearia in the swamps when I was orchid hunting earlier in the day.

On my much thought about National Park/Erua trip. Unfortunately only one night/day of three wasn't pouring, and only went halfway down the path due to having done a 20km walk early, and due to the strong northerly. Will need to repeat again with better conditions, and head further down to where the track goes through the middle of the wetlands.

Perhaps would be a good site for possible Meterana grandiosa?

Single vine (the original (type) specimen) growing on Kunzea triregensis. At the time this observation was made the vine was being shaded out and was in danger of dying out. Our (Department of Conservation) 1991 field work involved careful pruning of the canopy to let in more light and tying up (on to cables) of the vines that were found trailing in the dense vegetation. As a result of these measures the vine flowered for the first time (since it was discovered in 1946) in 1995. However, seed set in the wild is still not happening, probably because the flowers are destroyed by kakariki (Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae novaezelandiae)
