In a wet to wet-mesic northern flatwoods

A few unusual sterile plants, lacking achenes, with Carex lupulina and Carex retrorsa nearby. The perigynia are generally ascending in the upper part of the inflorescences, as in Cx. lupulina, but they are spreading to reflexed in the lower part, as in Cx. retrorsa. The spikes are loosely arranged as in Cx. lupulina. But the lower spikes have staminate flowers at the tips, as in Cx. retrorsa. These plants are very likely a hybrid between Cx. lupulina and Cx. retrorsa
