EDIT: Will be updating with photos that are not just back of camera when I get home from this trip!
General vibes felt Berylline and as far as shape, pattern of coloration went it SEEMED more Berylline in person, but the emerald glowed a little too blue & the beak was a little too pink to be confident in that. Probably just a weird broad billed??

Incredibly close to shore, as you can see by the kayakers and kid in the foreground.
But the poor thing must have breached and tail-slapped at least a hundred times - does anyone know why he'd do this? I assumed he was in some kind of distress.

Description
This juvenile female Lasionycteris noctivagans was recovered by a San Diego Humane Society Animal Control Officer after discovered in a residential area west of Otay Lakes. This is a very rare migratory bat for our area. Only four have previously been physically observed and recorded in San Diego County, most recently in 1985. It was assessed as healthy and nourished by Cindy and Chris, two volunteer bat rehabilitators affiliated with San Diego Humane Society Project Wildlife. Following test flights in a flight cage, the bat was transported and safely released in a rural area east the original recovery site on the evening of 15 October.
The first five photos were taken indoors in a flight cage while the bat was being cared for. The sixth image is of a bat fly posted separately to iNaturalist. The seventh and eighth images show its echolocation call sonogram rendered in SonoBat shortly after release as it circled our position before departing. The ninth image is a rendering of one of the Hoary bat's echolocation call sequences five minutes prior to the LANO release.
On a special note, a Hoary bat was observed flying and foraging very close to the release team at the release site. It was acoustically recorded five minutes prior to the Silver-haired bat release.

I think this may be a leucistic a Black-chinned hummingbird in three of the photos but confidence is not high. The bird has been coming to the yard for two days now. One photo also shows an adult male Black-chined hovering near the bird in question.
