Medium-sized (body length 24 mm), with smooth surface. Coloration variable, basically yellow with dark brown central area broken by yellow spots and transverse yellow line across rear of elytra.
Adults feed on flowers and fruit. Larvae develop in manure, compost and among plant roots, and pupate in hard oval clay cells, often in compost heaps.
Abundant and familiar garden pest. Habitat diverse, often in gardens.
Found in the garden at Aloe Ridge Self-Catering Lodge, in Mossel Bay.
It is Sinosolenaia iridinea (Heude, 1874)。But I can't find an entry for this species。
蛏蚌Sinosolenaia经常和中国淡水蛏(Novaculina chinensis)一起出现。两者在生态上可能构成竞争关系。
The clam Sinosolenaia is often found with the Chinese freshwater razor clam (Novaculina chinensis). The two may be ecologically competitive.
