Description

At 4:30 PM I noticed, in deep shade, a spectacular, 3 m high fruiting body display of white Ghost Fungus, Omphalotus nidiformis on a tall dead tree, either Corymbia gummifera or Casuarina littoralis. Time- lapse photography by Ben Smyth and David Rogers then captured the green glow luminescence emitted as light faded. Each night photo took approx 30 minutes. At night to the naked eye it glows white, hence the common name Ghost Fungus.

We "planted" a bit of this in our larger dam a few years ago, where it did nothing for a while but became very common in drought when the water level dropped and water no doubt warmed. Now it has got into another dam c. 2-300m away (via ducks?). It is growing on an old dry cow pat that must have blown into the dam and is holding its shape. Not seen anywhere else in the dam so far.
