Eggs were layed in this nest on March 8th. All five of them hatched. The young are over-crowded on this precarious ledge, but appear healthy - are stretching their wings and getting ready to fly.

Wondering if this is A. hemiophrys but not sure what I'm looking for to distinguish between it and americanus- yes- it's wild. west side of the northern Sable Island on Lake of the Woods (this time of year there are thousands of toads (mostly babies) there so this one caught my eye for being different)

When I woke up this morning I didn't know I'd be taking a selfie with a duck. Or running after it as it tried to take off from a wet road, which they never can. Or driving one-handed to release it at the nearest body of water. Any similarity between our hair is coincidental. Rescue mission: successful! The duck is on the left.
