Description
I photographed this casually assuming it was more common Carya ovata- when examining the photos later I was surprised to see that all the leaves have at least 7 leaflets. The bark is outside the potential shagginess of ovalis, so this leaves just laciniosa. Habitat-wise it makes sense, growing at the edge of the floodplain right next to silver maples, and some of the other NYS populations are also noted to be found in finger lakes outlet wetlands. I will definitely have to check back in on this tree to confirm.
