these mushrooms ranged from light tan to darker brown caps. stems and caps stain blue. older ones were almost completely blue. the caps are waxy but not exactly smooth. sort of like candle wax. they were growing among royal ferns, with soil but usually on piece of wood if you pulled one all the way out. they all were clustered among the ferns. very few even a few feet from the ferns.
