AAHHHHH FINALLLYYYY!!! :D :D :D
I've waited literally 7 years to see one of these - I knew they were in this area because there were ebird observations of them, but it took years of walking the trails several times a month to finally see one.
There were at least 3 of them in the vicinity, hopping around from tree to tree. They seemed to disappear into the bark whenever they stopped moving (probably due to the impressive camoflage patterning on the back).
This small, golden-spotted tortoise beetle ranges from southern Canada to Panama (I've also photographed it in Costa Rica).
This fellow was weathering the wind and cold on what I believe is a Smooth Blue Aster (Symphyotrichum laeve)
