Beach day for Rural Skippers

This was a california quail I saw today at Green Gulch in west marin. Notice the two top knots or plumes. Has anyone ever seen that before? I haven't.

Right at the moment of The Chomp! Teeny amphipods fleeing the unlucky Ectopleura polyp are visible in the second photo (side view). Shot for upcoming feature... ;-)

This heron flew to the lake after catching the gopher and held the gopher under water for a few minutes, drowning the gopher before swallowing it.

Tilden Botanic Gardens. As the sun warmed them up, they became more active, and dropped from the grass blades in tight groups, like globs of thick icing falling off a cake.
