California Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma californiense)

Description

Incidental & opportunistic. I was visually checking a drying cattle pond for frogs, saw some movement in the extremely shallow water, and could make out the elongated bodies of salamander larvae. A quick check to confirm/ID species and safely released. The remnant water was only as deep as the height of these guys (how I saw their backs & tails at the water surface). They may not make metamorphosis.
