Description
Such an enigma of a moth. I have no clue what this is. I found it months ago on my porch. Any thoughts? Such a chunky grey moth. Pretty big too, about an inch long and a thumb’s width curled up like that. The wings expanded out a good bit when I coaxed it into the cup for a photo shoot, and I think they are capable of extending further. I’d love to know what this is. It really baffled me.

Description
Larva seen resting on the underside of a leaf of Saurauia tristyla (http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=200014010), a known food plant of the larva.
The larva adopted an interesting posture with the head and first and second thoracic segments flexed dorsally, coupled with lateral spreading of the respective thoracic legs (especially the second pair). This resulted in a profile mimicking a body part with pincers when viewed from the dorsal aspect of the larva- a defensive strategy to scare off predators?

Not sure who this is. Seems pretty distinctive, but doesn't match any other obs of Lepidoptera larvae in WA this time of year.
