Really small youngster--looked a bit unstable on feet too..hope it makes it. It popped out near where I was standing and then just froze for a few seconds, then made it's way to new cover. I saw an adult later on

This male was scratching at a spot in the road and licking the dirt. I observed and filmed him for 45 min. Mineral lick? When I drove by later he was gone but a significant depression had been scratched. The road has a whitish patch there. I wonder what mineral was in such high demand.

NOTE: location is approximate, and the GPS coordinates are not precise. This is a very rare species and should be treated as such. It should be considered highly endangered, despite its entire range being within the designated Eagle Cap Wilderness area, global warming and the resultant climate change being an existential threat to its survival, which is likely dependent on sufficient, reliable, and well-timed snowmelt.
