Coquina (Donax variabilis)

Observer

scodius_m_011

Date

Description

These Coquinas are scattered along the Indian Rocks coastline. They vary in color, which makes them fascinating and quite beautiful. The size of coquinas is really small, less than a centimeter typically. Coquinas are shaped the same, as shown in the picture, kind of like an oval with an end. The southern coquina clams can be found from the coasts of Virginia all the way to the Gulf of Mexico, where I encountered the clams in my pictures.
